Case Law

The law in California can be found in its 29 volume collection of "Codes" covering every topic from "Business and Professions" to "Welfare and Institutions." When disputes arise over the meaning of the law set out in the Codes, the Courts create "Case Law" by issuing opinions that interpret the Codes more clearly. The firm was instrumental in creating new Case Law in the recent decision of Goodman v. Williams (2003), which involved the often complicated bundle of rights and remedies affecting the owners of special assessment bonds issued by the County of Los Angeles.
